Sensor Lab: About …

The Sensor lab (slab, s-lab or sensorlab) is a Teaching Lab within the Department of Design and Computation Arts. The principal goal and intention of the Sensor Lab (slab, s-lab or sensorlab) is to support Design, Computation Arts and MDes students working on class-related projects that explore new sensing and interface technologies, digital electronics and embedded computation. These creative works are often experienced as smart environments, gestural interfaces, mixed reality, wearable computing and new instuments for musical expression.

The Sensor Lab also offers support to faculty members teaching classes in the areas of Design Thinking, Interaction Design, Tangible Media, Physical Computing, Wearables, Responsive Environments, Edge Computing & Machine Learning and other areas that involve Embedded Electronics or Textiles.


CONSULTATION
The Lab Coordinator can be consulted during office hours with regards to Sensor Lab specific resources and research, class-related projects and in-class assignments.


WORKSHOPS
The Sensor Lab offers several workshops each semester.The topics of the workshops are related to Interaction Design, Embedded Electronics, Tangible Media, Soft Circuits, Wearables, Responsive Environments – all in the context of new media art.


RESOURCES
The Sensor Lab offers dedicated workspaces coupled with the necessary hardware tools and software applications to develop your project from inception to realisation. The lab also house a unique collection of reference books for individual study.
